That's, ah, flattering of you to say, thank you. Would it were true; my pathetic desire to believe better than what is has gotten the better of me more than once, and it's doubtful I've seen the last of it.

Suppose that's par for the course, the most potent illusions play on what one would like to be true.

I wouldn't mind if my loved ones could live up to the fantastic virtues I dream of, or for, them.

I'd really like it if we had real animals to tend. Aside from Cheshire Cat and that Boston terrier I met, there's no one.

I...sometimes I think I'd like the world to be less illusory in general, but then I think about how badly its managed and how much harm we'd be doing if the others were real, and wonder whether living amidst mannequins isn't better for us. Perhaps we're not fit for more.

There are a lot of wonderful animals or magical creatures here, though.

All of them, though focused on the archtypal ones they seem especially capable of exhibiting. Unfortunately whenever I get dreamy like that they seem to do the exact opposite. Those I feel to be especially strong turn out to show gross weakness, or the ones who value life one way devalue it another. So it goes.
